I had to add a few other thoughts based on the reactions I’ve seen to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT:
- Mike Huckabee proved himself to be a very dangerous man when he took this moment to say that rampages like Adam Lanza’s shouldn’t surprise us since we’ve taken God out of our public schools. There are people screaming that this isn’t the time to talk about gun control, yet it’s all right to spew crap like this? Why? And I want to know about the “loving” God he talks about who is also so vengeful that he would allow this to happen for spite. I thought Christians left that God behind with the Old Testament. Did Jesus ever say, “Have your kids pray to my dad and me in school or we’ll take them away in a blood spree.”? Huckabee may be folksy and likeable, but he’s doing serious damage. By comparison, the remarks Don Imus was taken off the air for simply pale.
- Rep. Louie Gohmert, of Texas, on the other hand continues to show himself to be an idiot – and to make me wonder what his constituents were thinking when they elected him. His wish is that the principal of Sandy Hook had had an M4 rifle to “blow the head off” Adam Lanza before he could kill any of the children. And this guy was once a judge! As a “Saturday Night Live” skit, he’d be funny – too over-the-top to be believed. In real life, he’s an abomination. Of course he made his remarks on Fox. I’d love to see him face a real interview on “This Week” or “Meet the Press.”
- And speaking of “Meet the Press,” apparently all 31 pro-gun senators refused to be interviewed by David Gregory this morning. Can they have any credibility when they don’t have the conviction to face questions when the heat is on? No. I will no longer look at any of them except as tools of the NRA – and I don’t think I’m alone.
- For reference, here’s a partial list of those pro-gun senators (borrowed from AmericaBlog).. To these and the rest, I say “Speak now or forever hold your peace and your votes.” (P.S. Making an appearance only on Fox will only further damage your image.)
